The House of Representatives on Tuesday withdrew its own constitutional amendment bill that sought to create state police across the country.
The move came as lawmakers began considering a separate State Police Bill submitted by the Executive arm of government.
During Tuesday’s plenary, the House gave the Executive-sponsored bill its first and second readings. It was then referred to the House Committee on Constitutional Review for further legislative work.
The decision puts the House’s earlier proposal on hold as lawmakers turn their attention to the Executive-backed amendment.
With the Executive bill now moving forward in the House, lawmakers are expected to examine its key provisions during the committee stage.
