The headquarters of the Joint Task Force (North-East), Operation HADIN KAI, has assured residents of strong security ahead of the Eid-El Kabir celebration on Wednesday, despite warnings of possible terrorist attacks.
In a security advisory released on Monday, the command said troops had been deployed to key vulnerable areas across the region to ensure a peaceful celebration.
While sending Eid greetings to Muslim faithful, the military said intelligence reports pointed to possible plans by remnants of Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province fighters to target civilians during the festive period.
“Terrorists may attempt to deploy suicide bombers and improvised explosive devices, particularly in densely populated areas.
”The OPHK assures residents that the threats had been anticipated and necessary preventive measures put in place.
“Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) assets have been fully activated, patrols intensified, while security forces are operating closely with sister agencies, the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) and community vigilance groups,” the military said.
Residents were urged to stay alert throughout the holiday and avoid unnecessary risks. The command advised worshippers to hold Eid prayers and celebrations close to home and, where possible, stay away from large gatherings.
It also called on the public to remain watchful in busy places such as markets, motor parks, banks and prayer grounds, and to quickly report suspicious people, objects or movements to security agencies.
Residents were further asked to cooperate with security personnel during patrols and screening exercises and avoid sharing unverified information that could trigger panic.
Operation HADIN KAI also appealed to traditional rulers, religious leaders, media organisations and community stakeholders to support security efforts by providing credible information promptly.
The command reaffirmed its commitment to denying terrorists freedom of action and ensuring residents celebrate Eid el-Fitr peacefully and safely across the North-East.
