Fear has gripped residents of Nding community in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State after gunmen struck late Tuesday night, leaving six people dead, including five members of the same family.
The attackers reportedly stormed the area around 9 p.m., catching residents off guard and opening fire. The shocking incident has once again raised worries over the repeated attacks troubling parts of the state.
A local resident, Weng Christopher, told Vanguard that the gunmen moved in suddenly and began shooting at people. He said five members of one family were killed instantly, while another person from the community also lost their life in the attack.
Clearly shaken, Christopher spoke about the growing fear among residents as such incidents continue to happen.
“This is becoming too frequent. People are living in constant fear,” he said.
The Publicity Secretary of Berom Youth Moulders, Rwang Tengwong, also confirmed the killings and strongly condemned the attack. He called on security agencies to step in quickly and take action.
Tengwong further revealed that the gunmen tried to launch another attack on Rim community in Riyom Local Government Area but were pushed back by local vigilantes alongside Operation Rainbow personnel.
He described the rising number of attacks as excessive and urged authorities to step up efforts to protect lives and property across Plateau State.
