Four Corps Members, Soldier Burnt to Death in Adamawa Auto Crash

Six people, including four National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members, were burnt to death after a crash in Adamawa State.

The crash happened on Wednesday, June 3, 2026 at about 1:50 p.m. along the Narehi area of the Girei-Song Local Government Area, the Adamawa police said.

Suleiman Nguroje, the state police spokesperson, confirmed the incident in a statement on Wednesday night.

“The unfortunate incident involved a military gun truck travelling from Gombi towards Yola and a commercial Hummer bus conveying five (5) passengers from Yola to Mubi,” the statement read.

“Preliminary findings reveal that both vehicles were involved in a head-on collision, resulting in the commercial bus flipping over and bursting into flames. “Tragically, all five passengers aboard the Hummer bus were burnt to d3ath after the vehicle caught fire following the collision.”

Police said preliminary identification showed four of the dead were serving NYSC members posted to Adamawa. They were identified as Suleuman Juliet, Usman Shuaibu, who are both indigenes of Kaduna State and Hafsat Hassan. But the remaining victims are yet to be identified, the police said.

Authorities also confirmed one military personnel attached to the military vehicle lost his life in the crash.

“Police operatives, in collaboration with other emergency responders, promptly responded to the scene. The corpses have been evacuated to the Specialist Hospital, Yola, while efforts are ongoing to identify the remaining bodies and locate their families,” Nguroje added.

He quoted the Commissioner of Police as offering heartfelt condolences to the families, the Nigerian Armed Forces, the NYSC and all affected.
