Chief Sunday Adeyemo, the founder of the Iru Ekun Security Network and Yoruba Nation activist, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, says he helped rescue a woman and her son abducted in Igbope, Oorelope Local Government Area of Oyo State.
Igboho named the victims as Adijat Kubura Aliqlas and her son, Abdulmalik. He said they were found in Kwara State after a joint operation by the Iru Ekun Security Network and the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) of the Nigeria Police Force.
A statement from Igboho’s media office on Saturday said the three-day operation was based on intelligence and tracking of the kidnappers. It added that the suspects were lured into collecting ransom before security operatives attacked, leaving the kidnappers with gunshot wounds and forcing them to abandon the captives in the forest.
Igboho was quoted as saying: “Myself and my team members with ASP Amos Ajegoke, including policemen have been in the forest for days tracking the movement of the hoodlums to ascertain the location. But on July 2, we discovered that they were at Bode Sadu before Jebba. We moved there and were there till Friday night.“
“Around 12:00 a.m. they came to collect ransom as we both agreed. But we attacked them in the forest and there was exchange of gunshots.“
“We subsequently gave them a hot chase and combed the forest. They fled. Later, we found out that they have abandoned Adijat Kubura and Abdulmalik.“
“We heard their voices shouting for help and were able to locate where the noises were coming from and rescued them. They are currently in Igboho General Hospital receiving medical attention.“
He thanked the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, for support and said he remains committed to protecting lives and property in Oke-Ogun and Oyo State. He urged Nigerians to stay calm, back legitimate security efforts and avoid spreading unverified information.
