The Nasarawa Police Command has confirmed the abduction of three students of the Federal University of Lafia (FULafia).
The command’s spokesperson, Ramhan Nansel, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Wednesday in Lafia.
He said the police received the report from the university’s Chief Security Officer on Tuesday at about 9:20 p.m.
According to him, the CSO reported that three students were kidnapped from Living Seed Lodge, located on the outskirts of the students’ residential community.
“Upon receipt of the report, the state commissioner of police, Shetima Mohammed, immediately ordered the deployment of tactical teams, patrol operatives, and other security personnel to the scene.
“The operatives swiftly mobilised and launched a coordinated search-and-rescue operation within the surrounding forest. The prompt response of the police led to the successful rescue of one of the abducted students.
“Efforts have since been intensified to ensure the safe rescue of the remaining two victims still in captivity and the arrest of the perpetrators,” he said.
Mr Nansel assured residents that the police would do everything possible to bring those behind the crime to justice. He also urged the public to stay calm, remain alert, and continue supporting security agencies with timely and reliable information to aid ongoing operations.
He further advised residents to report any suspicious movement or activity to the nearest police station for a swift response.
