A new twist in the sudden death of former Southampton winger Victor Udoh has surfaced.
The 21-year-old, who also played for Royal Antwerp, died in Abuja earlier this week “under suspicious circumstances.” Paris-based sports journalist Ojora Babatunde says the death is being treated as possible food or alcohol poisoning — and that things got dramatic afterwards.
He wrote on X: “According to multiple reports, former Southampton F.C. and Royal Antwerp F.C. winger, Victor Udoh reportedly died in Abuja last night following suspected food or alcohol poisoning.
“The 21-year-old winger was believed to be on holiday at the time of the incident.”
And in a further update Babatunde says Udoh’s mother moved quickly. “Developing story: Victor Udoh’s mother has reportedly had the deceased’s friends and girlfriend arrested in Abuja.”

That’s the latest on a story that’s still developing.
