Nigerian Facebook creator Ogheneovo Bridget Ogorode, known as Queen the Gbola Girl, has announced the birth of a baby boy — ending a month of intense online speculation, debates and controversy about her pregnancy and gender identity.
Queen, who became widely known after publicly revealing that she is intersex — a person born with sex characteristics that do not fit typical definitions of male or female — shared the news on her Facebook page, where followers flooded the comments with congratulations.
The birth has tossed Queen back into the spotlight. Many Nigerians were surprised that someone widely described online as a “hermaphrodite” could become pregnant and give birth.
Queen first drew widespread attention in 2024 after saying she was born with both male and female sexual characteristics. Through Facebook videos and media interviews she tried to educate the public and challenge stereotypes about intersex people.
Before her pregnancy she offered varying accounts of her anatomy and identity in different interviews. In one widely circulated podcast, she said she possessed both male and female reproductive organs and claimed she had fathered children with women, while also saying she identified more as a man in her relationships. Those comments sparked heated debate and scepticism online.
Her pregnancy shifted the conversation. As her baby bump grew in photos and videos, some accepted that intersex conditions vary, while others accused her of using sensational claims to build a following. Queen largely ignored critics, kept posting maternity photos and insisted her experience showed how complex being intersex can be.
The word, “intersex,” describes people born with variations in chromosomes, hormones, reproductive anatomy or genitalia. Depending on the condition, some intersex people have a uterus and ovaries and can become pregnant, while others cannot.
The baby’s arrival has reignited public talks about intersex identity, biology and common misconceptions. Queen’s journey has been marked by persistent scrutiny — accusations of fabrication, questions about her gender identity, relationships and appearance — yet she has continued documenting her life on Facebook to raise awareness and encourage acceptance.
Her traditional wedding earlier also drew attention and fresh debate about the authenticity of the marriage and her claims. With the safe delivery of her son, many say this is one of the most talked-about human-interest stories on Nigerian social media this year. While sceptics remain, supporters say the birth is a chance to educate the public and they have sent congratulations to the new mother.
