A three-storey building under construction collapsed on Wednesday in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.
The building came down behind Eternal Filling Station, opposite Chief Sam Ngbor Avenue, off the busy Peter Odili Road.
Construction workers were said to be on site when the structure suddenly caved in, trapping some of them under the rubble.
Residents who spoke with Daily Trust said several workers were trapped after the collapse and called for an urgent emergency response.
Officials from relevant agencies arrived at the scene shortly after the incident and began rescue operations.
As of the time this report was filed, no deaths had been confirmed, while the cause of the collapse remained unclear.
The Rivers State Government has not yet issued an official statement on the incident.
The spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, ASP Blessing Kaborlo Agabe, confirmed the incident to Daily Trust and said two people had been rescued and taken to hospital.
She added that rescue efforts were still ongoing to find out if anyone else remained trapped beneath the rubble.
