Vice‑President Senator Kashim Shettima urged Nigerians to pray hard for peace and stability, saying President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is firmly committed to restoring calm across the country. He also promised the government is working to bring back children and citizens held by bandits and terrorists, and paid tribute to the heroes who protected Nigeria’s democracy.
Shettima spoke in Abuja on Friday after a special Jummat prayer at the National Mosque to mark Democracy Day.
“I want to assure Nigerians of President Bola Tinubu’s unwavering commitment towards restoring peace and stability in the nation.
“No matter how long the night is, it must give way to the light of dawn. Stormy as the weather may be, it will not rain forever. The government remains irrevocably committed to restoring peace and stability in the nation,” he assured.
He asked Nigerians to pray for the country and for one another, stressing that what binds the nation is stronger than what divides it.
Earlier, the National Mosque’s Imam, Haroun Eze, told the congregation to stay patriotic and stand firm in defending the nation. He urged leaders at all levels to act decisively on security so peace — essential for development and citizens’ well‑being — can prevail.
The annual Democracy Day prayer service highlighted reflection, unity and prayer as Nigeria celebrates its democratic gains while tackling security and development challenges.
The event drew several dignitaries, including Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq (Chairman, Nigeria Governors’ Forum and Governor of Kwara), Ministers Mohammed Idris and Gboyega Oyetola, former Kano governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, ex‑SSG Mahmoud Yayale Ahmed, Senator Abubakar Kyari and JAMB’s outgoing registrar Professor Ishaq Oloyede.
