Yinka Alaseyori Apologises Over Oyo School Abduction Comment

Popular gospel singer Yinka Alaseyori has apologised after Nigerians criticised her comments about the recent abduction of pupils and teachers in Oyo State.

In an Instagram video on Wednesday, the singer said she heard the public’s concerns and regretted that her earlier remarks seemed insensitive to the victims and their families. She insisted she never meant to downplay the tragedy.

“I did a video two days ago about the kidnapped children, touching on government, parastatals and every agency. But when I woke up yesterday, I found out that some well-meaning Nigerians were not happy about it, as I made them feel their voices are unheard,” she said.

Alaseyori added she was upset by the reaction and asked Nigerians—especially parents—for forgiveness if she caused any hurt.

“You know me too well that I would never make you feel like that. Mothers, do not be offended. I am sorry. I beg in God’s name. Please, forgive me. I would never think like that. Pardon and forgive me,” she added.

Her apology came after strong reactions to an earlier video where she urged Nigerians to keep praying over the country’s security problems, while saying the Federal Government and President Bola Tinubu were trying to rescue the victims and restore peace.

Many on social media said prayers alone were not enough and demanded firmer action from authorities. The kidnapping in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State has drawn national attention, with calls for stronger rescue efforts and better security.
