Tragedy In Ondo As Woman Dies While Waiting for Child Writing UTME

Tragedy struck on Monday in Ondo State after a woman, Oluwasola Victoria Adebayo, reportedly slumped and died while waiting for her child who was sitting for the ongoing Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

The sad incident happened at a centre located at Ilara-Mokin Junction in Ifedore Local Government Area. It was learnt that the woman had taken her child to the examination venue and had just arrived when she suddenly became ill.

People who were around said she complained of feeling weak moments before she unexpectedly slumped. Some sympathisers quickly tried to revive her, but all efforts failed, and she was confirmed dead at the scene.

At the time the incident happened, her child was said to be inside the examination hall writing the exam and had no idea about what had taken place outside.

A resident in the area, who knew the deceased and identified her as “Mummy Ayo,” revealed that the woman had earlier mentioned that she would be escorting her daughter to the examination centre that morning.

News of the sudden death quickly drew a large number of people to the area, as shocked onlookers gathered and expressed sadness over the heartbreaking development.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the Ondo State Police Command, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said: “The command notes with deep concern a sad incident involving the sudden death of a woman in Ilara Mokin.

“The family of the deceased has since been contacted and, upon thorough checks, the remains of the deceased have been released to one Mr Apapa Olamilekan, who identified himself as her son and an officer of the Nigeria Legion, Akure.”
