2 Dead, 1 Missing After Airboat Overturns in Florida River

Two people are dead and one remains missing after an airboat capsized on the Istokpoga Canal in Florida on Monday, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said.

Emergency crews in Highlands County responded to a single‑vessel incident. Seven people were aboard the airboat heading to the Kissimmee River when trouble began.

As the vessel approached the river from the Istokpoga Canal, it entered a deeper section and started taking on water. The airboat capsized and passengers were thrown overboard.

Four people managed to make it safely to shore. A search was immediately launched for the three who remained in the water. Officials later located two of those missing and pronounced them dead at the scene. The search for the third missing passenger is ongoing.

The FWC and the Highlands County Sheriff’s Office offered their deepest condolences to the families affected by the tragedy. The incident remains under investigation.
