Police arrest five suspects over alleged murder, armed robbery in Bauchi

Bauchi police have arrested five suspects in two separate operations tied to a killing and an armed robbery in Bauchi and Ningi Local Government Areas.

Police say three young men — Rabiyu Sanda, 16; Muhammad Abubakar, 21; and Suleiman Nura, 21, all from Miri Village — were picked up by operatives of the ‘B’ Division, GRA on June 13 after an incident on June 11. Preliminary investigations, the command said, show the trio allegedly conspired and carried out the act after a misunderstanding with the deceased. The suspects reportedly confessed during questioning and gave useful information that helped the probe. The case has been moved to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation and expected charges in court.

In a second case, detectives in Ningi arrested two men over an alleged armed robbery on a 22-year-old commercial motorcyclist. The victim’s father reported on June 14 that his son was attacked in Ningi Town on the night of June 13 by assailants who tried to steal his bike. Police arrested Adamu Abdullahi of Zazika Village (Ningi LGA) and Aminu Shuaibu of Dutsen Danga Village (Birnin Kudu LGA, Jigawa). The command says the suspects allegedly hit the rider in the face with a hammer before taking the motorcycle. Officers recovered the bike and arrested the suspects; that case is also with SCID for further action.

Commissioner of Police CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu has ordered diligent handling of both matters, vowed to protect lives and property, and urged residents to avoid violence, stay alert and report suspicious activity.
