Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, paid surprise visits to INEC voter registration centres in Anambra State on Friday.
He stopped at the Civic Centre, Nibo, and Nrijiofor Primary School, Nri, while returning to the state to attend scheduled engagements, he said in a post on his Facebook page.
Obi used the chance to urge eligible Nigerians to take part in the ongoing voter registration exercise. He called registration the foundation for good governance and praised those who had already turned up.
“I was pleased to see Nigerians registering to vote. I took the opportunity to commend those who had turned out and to encourage every eligible citizen to do the same,” Obi said.
He reminded people that the fight for better government starts well before Election Day.
“I reminded them that the journey to good governance does not begin on Election Day; it begins with voter registration. Registering to vote is not just a civic responsibility—it is an investment in the Nigeria we all desire,” he stated.
Obi also asked those yet to register to do so before the deadline, and urged registered voters to mobilise family members, friends, neighbours and colleagues. “Every registered voter strengthens our democracy and brings us one step closer to building the secure, united, productive and prosperous Nigeria we all seek,” he said. Reiterating his campaign slogan, Obi added: “A New Nigeria is POssible.”
