Gunmen stormed Community High School in the Ahoro-Esinele community of Oriire Local Government Area, Oyo State, on Friday morning, abducting the school’s principal and an unspecified number of students, residents said.
The attack occurred between 8:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m., when armed assailants entered the school compound and seized several pupils. The principal, Mrs. Rachael Alamu, was taken during the incursion.
Witnesses also reported that a teacher sustained a gunshot wound; the extent of the injuries has not been confirmed.
According to accounts from the community, the attackers fled through a nearby forest reserve and left the scene in the principal’s vehicle. Locals criticized what they described as a delayed security response, attributing the lag to the considerable distance from the nearest police station.
The Oyo State Police Command said it is still verifying the number of people abducted. Spokesperson CSP Olayinka Ayanlade said the Commissioner of Police and a tactical team have been dispatched to the area to assess the situation and coordinate response efforts.
