After Winning NDC Ticket, Peter Obi Reveals His Bold Plan to End Insecurity in Nigeria

Mr Peter Obi says if elected president in 2027 he’ll fight insecurity with intelligence and technology. He made the pledge in his acceptance speech after winning the presidential ticket of the Nigerian Democratic Coalition (NDC) on Saturday in Abuja.

He called the moment a turning point and told supporters to stay focused on rebuilding trust in government. Obi stressed national unity as central to his plan and warned against ethnic and religious divisions.

He also raised the alarm about Nigeria’s slipping global ranking on terrorism impact. “We must address insecurity with resolve and urgency, for no nation can thrive while its citizens live in trepidation. The primary responsibility of government is to ensure the safeguarding of lives and property,” he said.

On how he’ll tackle the threat, Obi was specific: “Our strategy will be intelligence-driven, technology-enhanced, proactive, and community-focused. We will fortify our security institutions, enhance operational coordination, support our courageous personnel, and tackle the underlying causes of insecurity—namely poverty, unemployment, and marginalisation.”

He told listeners that restoring safety will let farmers return to their fields, students learn without fear, and businesses regain confidence. The former Anambra governor — pitching himself as a reform candidate — also promised to prioritise healthcare, education, food security and job creation if elected.
