Bandits Kill Two Children, Kidnap Three in Bauchi community

Bandits have killed two children, injured six others and abducted three people after raiding Rafin Ciyawa village in Ningi Local Government Area, Bauchi State.

Residents said the gunmen burst into the village around 12:30 am on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, firing sporadically and throwing everyone into panic. Zubairu Yahaya described the first horror: “Two of the children d!ed on the spot, while six others sustained serious gunshot injuries,” he told Daily Trust.

A neighbour who asked not to be named said the attackers then searched homes for two brothers, Saminu and Safiyanu, who were thought to have recently received a large sum of money. When the brothers weren’t found, the men abducted relatives Rukkaya, Samsiyya and Kabiru.

Villagers say the bandits later phoned the families and reportedly cut their ransom demand from N100 million to N10 million. Mukhtar Usman, whose relatives were taken, confirmed negotiations were ongoing.

Community leaders are now begging the federal and Bauchi State governments to post permanent security in the area. Police Public Relations Officer SP Nafiu Habib confirmed the attack and said the command has deployed the Violent Crime Reduction Unit, the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, local hunters and vigilantes to rescue the victims and arrest the suspects.
