BREAKING: Protest Rocks Ibadan Over Kidnapping of Teachers, Children by Boko Haram (VIDEO)

Civil society groups and teachers marched peacefully in Ibadan on May 29 to demand urgent action after teachers and pupils were kidnapped in Oriire LGA, Channels TV reported.

The protest, organised by the Oyo State Teachers Action Group and the Nigeria Teachers Congress (NTC), warned that teachers’ and children’s safety across the state can no longer be ignored.

NTC national president Rev. Bunmi Thomas told the crowd the demo was in solidarity with victims and their families and meant to push the government to do more. He said reports show rescue efforts are underway but urged stronger action:

“If the government is trying and the desired result has not been achieved, then more efforts must be intensified. We want the government to do more to rescue the teachers and pupils.”

He worried about the youngsters held in the bush:

“We have children as young as two and three years old in the bush. They are exposed to rain and harsh weather conditions. These victims are in danger, and nobody knows who could be next.”

Sunday Odukoya, Governor Seyi Makinde’s security aide, answered protesters, promising the state was actively working to free the victims:

“This incident is unfortunate, but I want to assure you that the government is not folding its arms over the matter.”

He said some operational details must stay private to protect rescue efforts and vowed no protester would face intimidation. A video of the rally was shared on X by TVC News.
