Corps Member Slumps, Dies in Zamfara 7 Days to Passing Out

A National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Dr. Ibrahim Abdulmumin Adeiza, died in Zamfara State just seven days before finishing his one-year service.

Dr. Adeiza, who was posted to Yarima Bakura Specialist Hospital in Gusau, died on May 13, 2026. A colleague and friend, Engr. Habibu Nura, said the young doctor slumped around 1:00 pm after going out with a colleague to buy a plastic bottle. He passed away about an hour later.

Nura added that Dr. Adeiza showed no signs of illness. “They were together, laughing and chatting one hour before his death,” he said.

The Information/Public Relations Officer of the Zamfara State Ministry of Health, Suleiman Isah, confirmed the incident in a statement on Wednesday.

“Zamfara State Government has condoled with the National Youth Service Corps and the family of Dr. Ibrahim Abdulmumin Adeiza, a corps member serving at Yarima Bakura Specialist Hospital, who passed away while carrying out his national service duties,” the statement read.

“The State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Nafisa Muhammad Maradun, expressed sadness over the death of the young doctor, describing it as a great loss to the health sector and the state.

“Dr. Nafisa said the late corps member was dedicated, hardworking, and committed  in saving Humanity.

“She prayed to Almighty Allah to forgive his shortcomings and grant him Aljannatul Firdaus, while also praying for strength and comfort for his family, colleagues, friends, and the NYSC community to bear the painful loss.”
