Gunmen K1ll 18, Injure Others in Fresh Attack on Plateau Community

At least 18 farmers were killed and several others injured after gunmen attacked Kawel village in Mushere District of Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State.

Christopher Luka, Bokkos Youth Leader, confirmed the attack to Daily Trust on Monday. He said the incident happened around 11:30 p.m. on Sunday.

The attack came less than five days after the District Head of Gwande in Bokkos LGA, Saf Samuel Alaket, was killed in an ambush along the Sha District axis near Daffo community. Alaket was returning home from a traditional council meeting when the attack happened.

Speaking on Sunday night’s incident, Luka said a fellow youth council member alerted him as the attack unfolded.

“A youth leader called around 12 a.m. that gunmen attacked the community and shot over 20 people, so 18 were confirmed dead” Luka said.

Luka said he immediately informed security personnel stationed in Bokkos.

“I called the security and they confirmed to me that they had been alerted and were on their way to the attacked community,” he said.

He described the attack as unprovoked and urged security agencies to act quickly to prevent the situation from getting worse.

As of press time, no security agency had issued a statement on the incident.
