Gunmen Kidnap 6 Nasarawa Varsity Students

Six students of the Faculty of Engineering at Nasarawa State University were kidnapped by terrorists on Wednesday night in Gudi, Akwanga Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

A source said the students were taken from an off-campus lodge in the community.

The spokesman of the Nasarawa State Police Command, SP Ramhan Nansel, confirmed the incident in a statement, saying, “six students and a friend of one of them were affected whose identity could not be immediately ascertained.”

He said the command had stepped up efforts to rescue the victims.

According to him, the police received a distress call around 9pm on May 6, 2026, that armed men invaded a students’ lodge at Anguwar Ninzo, Gudi, on the outskirts of the town, and took some students to an unknown place.

Nansel said six of the victims have been identified as students of the Faculty of Engineering, Gudi Campus of the university, while another victim was said to be visiting one of the students when the attack happened.

He added that the Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, visited the area for an assessment and assured students, residents and the university community that security agencies were working hard to rescue the abducted victims safely.

The police also said more security personnel, including the DSS, military, NSCDC, vigilantes and tactical teams, have been deployed to track the kidnappers and rescue the victims unharmed.
