Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Policy Communication, has said President Bola Tinubu is not worried about possible challengers ahead of the 2027 presidential election, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi.
Atiku belongs to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) while Obi is in the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC). Both are expected to emerge as presidential candidates of their parties.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday, Bwala dismissed claims that the APC was weakening opposition parties, saying their problems were caused by internal crises.
“They are familiar customers to Asiwaju. I hope you know he defeated them in 2023,” Bwala said.
He added that Tinubu defeated them “when the odds were against him,” and insisted neither politician is currently a serious threat.
Speaking about Atiku, Bwala said: “My former principal, Atiku Abubakar, is a good man, smart and intelligent with political credentials. The only problem is what we call in football father time. The skill will be there, but you will not be able to act.”
On Peter Obi, he claimed the former Anambra governor depended heavily on religious sentiment in 2023 and lacked strong political structure.
“Peter Obi came into politics with a dead political career,” he stated.
Bwala also defended Tinubu’s economic reforms, saying the policies are improving the economy.
“The metrics and numbers are working in favour of the Nigerian economy. We are out of the worst period and moving towards recovery,” he added.
