Abdulaziz Umar Ganduje, the eldest son of former All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has obtained the nomination form to contest for the House of Representatives under the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
He is seeking to represent the Dawakin Tofa/Tofa/Rimin Gado Federal Constituency in Kano State.
Despite his father’s long-standing influence in the APC, Abdulaziz has remained a loyal member of the Kwankwasiyya political movement for years.
A video circulating online showed him speaking with Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso shortly after obtaining the form. He reportedly briefed the former Kano governor on his ambition and his readiness for the race ahead of the next general election.
The move adds a fresh twist to the long-running political rivalry between Ganduje and Kwankwaso, whose relationship broke down years after they worked closely together in Kano politics.
Abdulaziz has long kept his distance from his father’s political camp and has consistently identified with the Kwankwasiyya movement.
His political stance drew wider attention after a controversial dispute with his mother, Professor Hafsat Umar Ganduje. He had petitioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over an alleged failed agreement involving her.
He is now aiming for the same House of Representatives seat contested by his brother, Umar Abdullahi Ganduje, in the 2023 election under the APC. Umar lost the race to a candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), despite their father serving as Kano governor at the time.
