Man Bags 7 Years Jail Term For Advertising Cannabis on Social Media

A Federal High Court in Kano has handed a seven-year jail term to 28-year-old Ashiru Idris for advertising and offering cannabis sativa for sale on social media. There is no option of a fine.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) said operatives of its Kano Strategic Command arrested Idris on April 22, 2026, after a video of him promoting the drug went viral online.

Delivering judgement, Justice S.M. Shuaibu convicted the defendant and ordered that the prison term begin on July 14, 2026.
