NECO releases 2026 BECE results, fixes date for resit exam ‎

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the results of the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), the council said in a statement on Thursday.

Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, Mr Azeez Sani, said 186,291 candidates registered for the exam in 12 subjects. The candidates came from all 36 states, the Federal Capital Territory and five foreign countries.

The examination began on April 20 and was successfully completed on April 30, 2026. Sani said the results followed the BECE Award Committee Meeting at NECO’s headquarters in Minna, Niger State.

The meeting was led by the minister of education, Dr Tunji Alausa, who was represented by the director of basic education, Federal Ministry of Education, Dr Folake Olatunji-David. Secondary school principals from across the country and members of NECO management also attended.

Sani added that the committee approved July 22 and July 23, 2026 for a BECE resit in mathematics and English studies. The resit is for candidates with conditional deficiencies in mathematics, English studies, or both. It gives affected candidates a chance to fix those deficiencies and obtain the certification needed for admission and placement into SSS I without repeating a full academic year. (NAN)
