The Oyo police command said Monday afternoon, June 29, it pulled off a major hit after two children were kidnapped in Ibarapa.
According to The Punch, police rescued the two kids and arrested four suspected kidnappers. The victims were taken on Friday, June 27, from Ebinpejo village, via Lanlate in Ibarapa East LGA.
Police say a mix of security agencies, good intelligence and local help traced the kidnappers to a forest hideout. In a shootout the captors fled; at least one was hit and later arrested. The Nation named him as 25‑year‑old Umaru Usman. Follow‑up moves led to three more arrests.
The police’s statement partly read:
“The two abducted children were rescued safely and promptly taken for medical attention.
“One of the victims sustained injuries during the ordeal but received treatment before both children were successfully reunited with their family.”
The command also thanked Amotekun, local vigilante groups, hunters and members of the public for “invaluable support” that helped the operation.
The statement went on to praise the IGP, adding:
“The Oyo State Police Command also expresses profound appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc (+), NPM, for his exemplary leadership, strategic guidance, and continued support, which have strengthened policing operations across the country.”
