Panic in Kogi as Bandits Storm Community, Kill One, Kidnap Over 30

Panic swept through Ayegunle Bunu community in Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State in the early hours of Monday, June 1, 2026, after bandits attacked the area, killing one person and abducting more than 30 others.

Preliminary reports said the attack happened around 2:25 a.m. One person was killed, while another suffered injuries during the incident.

Community sources said a man and a woman from Ayegunle Bunu were among those kidnapped.

The other victims were said to be passengers travelling in a commercial bus that was stopped by the attackers while passing through the area.

Kogi State Commissioner of Police, Naziru Kankarofi, confirmed the attack while speaking with journalists on the sidelines of the Passing-Out Parade of 565 newly trained police constables at the Command Headquarters in Lokoja.

Kankarofi said investigations into the abduction were ongoing and noted that police had launched efforts to rescue the victims and arrest those behind the attack.
