Nigerian Army troops have rescued 23 passengers abducted by suspected kidnappers along the Ayegunle–Bunu Road in Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State.
Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the attack happened around 3:30 a.m. on Monday when armed men blocked the road and attacked travellers.
Several passengers were reportedly taken before troops from the 12 Brigade in Kabba responded to a distress call.
When the soldiers arrived, the kidnappers had already escaped. Troops found two bodies and five injured victims at the scene. They also recovered two Toyota commercial buses and a HOWO truck abandoned by the roadside.
A source said: “The troops immediately launched a pursuit operation leading to the rescue of 23 abducted passengers.”
The rescued passengers were taken to safety, while the injured were moved to St Joseph Hospital, Kabba, for treatment.
Military sources said efforts are ongoing to track down the attackers and rescue any remaining victims. They added that surveillance and clearance operations have been stepped up in the area to prevent further attacks.
The Ayegunle–Bunu axis has recorded repeated cases of kidnapping and banditry in recent times, prompting a stronger military response.
