Nigerian singer Emoseh Khamofu, better known as Bloody Civilian, says her life as an artiste has reshaped how she sees the world — and even how she views the family rules she grew up with.
On a recent episode of the Not Just OK podcast, the Taraba-born, 26-year-old star said some of the conventional values her family expects no longer interest her. She told listeners she has no plans to get married, even though her family keeps asking about it.
“One thing my family still does not understand about being an artiste is the fact that certain conventional things that they expect of a woman from the North are just simply not things that I am excited to do.
“For instance, marriage is not something that I am thinking of at all. But that question keeps being brought up.”
Bloody Civilian’s comments underline a common tension between creative careers and traditional family expectations — and she sounds pretty firm about where she stands.
