“Trying to Make Money From a Friend’s Burial?” Kunle Remi Dragged Over Video From Alex Ekubo’s Funeral

Nollywood actor Kunle Remi is facing heavy criticism on Twitter after sharing a vlog from Alex Ekubo’s funeral.

Alex was buried on Thursday, June 18, in an emotional ceremony attended by celebrities including IK Ogbonna, Mike Godson, Omoni Oboli, Ini Edo, KCee, E-Money, Cubana Chief Priest, Bimbo Ademoye, Kunle Remi and his wife, Ayo Makun, Yomi Casual, Nancy Isime, Funny Bone, Pretty Mike and others.

On Instagram, Kunle posted a comic-style vlog showing his trip to Abia State, the arrival of Alex’s casket, visits to his ancestral home and father’s house, the wake-keep, burial and reception.

Many social media users were unhappy with the video, accusing him of monetising his colleague’s funeral.

Iam_oghenemine wrote, “I can’t fathom this vlog though. The voice-over is even more annoying to me.”

The Original wrote, “TF is this? No over-18-year-old male should be allowed to be fooling like this.”

Terra wrote, “Dude, monetising the burial of a colleague is the height of it.”

Others described the vlog as insensitive, while Aphrodite_N wrote, “This vlog is in very bad taste. What came over Kunle Remi?”

The backlash comes amid wider debate around Alex’s funeral events. Just a day earlier, Noble Igwe criticised how people celebrated the late actor, saying it looked more like a celebration than mourning.

Daddy Freeze had also questioned the sermon delivered during Alex’s Service of Songs and criticised Mercy Chinwo, claiming she turned the event into a concert.

BBNaija’s Cross fired back, telling Freeze to stay quiet if he knew nothing about Jesus Christ and to leave men and women of God alone.

Freeze later challenged Cross to find pastors who could heal one verified cripple out of 50, promising N100 million within 72 hours.

Responding, Mofe Duncan said the event was a tribute night and service of songs, not a funeral, adding that Alex loved worship and would have wanted a worship concert.
