Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, the NDC’s candidate for Kano 2027, has picked Mustapha Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso — son of Kwankwasiyya leader Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso — as his running mate, the movement’s spokesman Dr. Habibu Saleh Mohammed hinted on Monday.
Mustapha resigned as Kano State Commissioner for Youth and Sports after political squabbles between his father and Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf. While Governor Yusuf left the New Nigerian People’s Party (NNPP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC) and is seeking a second term on that platform, Mustapha quit Yusuf’s cabinet and followed his father, who is now the running mate to the NDC presidential candidate, Chief Peter Obi.
The Kwankwasiyya Movement Spokesperson in a brief Statement said: “His Excellency, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, unveiled Hon. Mustapha Rabiu Musa kwankwaso as running mate for 2027 governorship election.”
According to the statement, Gwarzo formally presented Mustapha as the party’s deputy governorship candidate ahead of the 2027 Kano State governorship election.
Mustapha said his decision to resign from Governor Yusuf’s cabinet was taken with a “heavy heart.”
